Cormorant-like, the anhinga is a largish water bird 35 inches tall with wingspan of 45 inches. The long, slim neck helps distinguish this species from cormorants. Black with silvery white spots and streaks on wings and upper back. Often swims submerged to the neck. Spears fish with slender sharply-pointed bill. Prefers freshwater habitat.
