The Black-bellied Whistling Duck is unique in appearance, rarely confused with other species. Grey face with white eye ring, long red bill, long head and longish legs, body plumage mostly grey-brown. Legs red or pink. Belly, rump and tail are black with distinct white wing patch in flight. Call is a high-pitched four note whistle. Favors woodland steams, marshes and coastal lowlands. Non-migratory, present in Texas year around, nests here.
