The color of dry sand with thin dark bill and dark legs. Partial breast band and dark ear patch. Darts across the ground, stops suddenly, then sprints off again. Most common on Gulf beaches and mud flats. Present in Texas October through March. Forages on small aquatic insects, worms and other animals by probing.
