White with much black in wing and with dark-colored, naked head. Long, thick, decurved bill. Found in marshes, lagoons, estuaries and bays. Present in Texas July-Sept. during post breeding disbursal. Nearest known breeding colony is in Campeche, Mexico and most of this species seen in Texas are from Mexico.
